Telecoms Manager

Weekly team meetings with the team keep not only the team but I am updated on the progress of all projects. I prefer any escalation of project delays to be reviewed by myself with the team before it is passed out of the group, in this way we have the opportunity to mitigate or find alternative items to keep projects on track.Network Design. A key part for the team is to oversee all design of new network connections to ensure that the company standards and strategies are met. These designs can be from a simple connection onto the MPLS infrastructure or a complete data centre build. Staff Appraisals. Regular one to one reviews with each member of the team. Identify any technical and personnel development. This is also an ideal opportunity to discuss poor performance and document a recovery plan to improve performance. Budgets I am responsible for the department's capital and operating budget, which is approx £5.5 million per year.

The team leader role entailed day to day operations of the UK telecom environment. This role also included staff appraisals and resource planning for projects. Hiring and managing performance issues were excluded at this level. A key responsibility in this role was also the technical lead for the group. In this capacity planning the grown of the network was important to the reliability and performance of the networks. These key skills were put into good effect in pre-sales support with new and existing clients. I would attend technical workshops with clients to design and engineer network connects to meet the requirements for their business with First Data. I designed and managed the change of the company's Local Area Network from ATM & Token ring over to a new switched Ethernet environment to improve performance and scalability. Here I gained experience in Ethernet predominantly Cisco Switched environment with 6500, 5500 4500 3750 & 4000 switches at Layer 2 & 3.Cisco routers 800, 1600, 2600,2800, 3600, 3700, 3800 and 7200. I developed a sound working knowledge of TCP IP networking with a good understanding of Firewall technologies including Checkpoint.These networks support Novel, TCP IP and SNA protocols over Ethernet and Token Ring LANs. On the wide area side I have large experience in point to point leased lines, SMDS, ISDN, X,25, ATM, MPLS, Internet VPN's and frame relay; These networks use two key routing protocols OSPF & EIGRP which I troubleshoot and design expansion on a regular basis. CA Unicentre, HP Openview and Concord E-health are used to monitor these Networks.My most significant deliverable during this period was the complete migration of a Data centre from Essex to Yorkshire. This included the Design, implementation and migration of all network services to support cross site communication and Disaster recovery for this IBM, UNIX and Intel environment.
