As the CEO of a small startup specializing in Augmented and Virtual Reality software, I work across every aspect of the business including managing the company, finances, supplier relationships, business development, marketing and sales, quality, delivery and people.I work with a great bunch of developers helping to mature the development process, bring focus to the strategy and direction of the business, build a strong thought leadership brand, source clients and structure the team and business to scale. Having launched in South Africa, we are now transitioning to the UK to grow the business internationally and take advantage of new opportunities.

As founder and CEO, I led the business through its start in South Africa and secured $2,5m in Series A funding in the US. I oversaw a move to the head office to Seattle, USA and navigated the SA Reserve Bank exchange control challenges in transferring the IP from South Africa to the USA. On launching and growing the business in the US, I successfully navigated the business through Covid and utilised digital strategies to grow the business and secure a further $2m in Series A-2 funding.My proudest achievement is in building a remarkable team and incredible company culture through their support.

As founder and CTO, I was co-creator of an innovative nutrigenetics product and used technology, design and behavioural mechanics to create a unique patented product in the HealthTech industry. I developed marketing collateral, defined the go-to-market strategy and developed the brand and communication strategy to grow and scale the business in South Africa from an initial angel investment.

As CTO for this Cape Town-based game and animation company, I implemented best practice agile delivery processes utilising SCRUM and design thinking elements into the engagement approach with Sea Monster customers.I delivered a number of successful Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Mobile Games. In the former, they included Super Animals for Pick n Pay, Super Animals 2 for Pick n Pay, Whiskey Tasting for Pernod Ricard.In Virtual Reality: Pilot Training in VR using Oculus for SightSense, Working at Heights training in Vive for Arcelor Mittal and worked on game design and development for Disney Imagine Academy educational games and Bar Blitz for IMVU.During my role, I also stepped into a CEO post with Engage Genetics, a genetics startup incubated by Sea Monster. Here, I helped conceptualise the product, built the three year financial model, created the pitch deck and pitched to various VCs and Angels. Most notably we made it to the final round of the Illumina Accelerator in San Francisco. Roles on the above projects included Project Manager, Product Owner, Game Designer, Client LeadOther roles performed were: Quality Assurance, Business Analysis, Enterprise / Solutions ArchitectIn my spare time, I was also the CTO :)

I led a world class business intelligence division at Saratoga software and steered the thinking and approach on innovation at Saratoga. I also performed strategic consulting for Saratoga's customers using the underlying concepts of systems and design thinking and enterprise architecture.

I was the founder of Mammoth, a Cape Town BI, Analytics and Big Data conference (see http://www.mammothbi.co.za).Mammoth BI brought together local business greats with global industry heavyweights to share the latest in a market-led approach to Business Intelligence (BI).Our focus was to build the South African BI community - providing discussions to mythbust conventional ideas of Big Data, and create and harvest a local community understanding in this sector.

As Enterprise Architect, I created a number of EA diagrams, built an EA competency and designed and managed a number of key strategic projects, such as the implementation of a Finance Systems Suite, BI Reference architecture, Master Data Management architecture, Middleware & SOA messaging architecture.My role also saw me work closely with the CIO to develop the technology strategy.

As IT Manager, I shifted focus to a more senior management role. I was responsible for managing the software development team, two Business Intelligence teams, the support team, the straight through processing team and infrastructure team.I implemented agile methodologies into the various teams and built up management capabilities within the teams.

As Development Manager, I was responsible for the architecture and design of Web Applications, Straight Through Processing and Business Intelligence components alongside the management of these teams, which grew to over 30 members.The key projects included a workflow application for processing Unit Trust forms, a Unit Trust BI platform using SQL and Cognos, a website for the Unit Trust customers called Investor Online and a reporting platform for Asset Management reporting off Invest One.

I managed a team of developers to build an export management system using an agile methodology (XP). This was successfully developed in VB6, ASP, SQL with web services for integration.

I worked on a number of projects using VB6, ASP, VB.Net, SQL Server & Oracle and assisted in building the companies flagship product, a online shopping site, which was later integrated into Pastel.The success of the product resulted in the company being purchased by Softline.
