About Ha Vu, Ph.D.

I obtained my Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, with skills in drug target identification using next generation sequencing (bulk and single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomics data) and statistical modeling. My current work focuses on modeling and integration of multi-omics data to study the regulatory mechanisms of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. My broad research interests are gene regulation, gene regulatory networks and disease mechanisms.

Working in the Parker Lab and the Epigenomic Metabolic Medicine Center to study Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes (T1D/T2D) mechanisms. My work focuses on integrating multi-omics data (e.g., single-cell/nucleus RNA-seq and ATAC-seq) with genetic variant data (e.g., GWAS and e/caQTL) to characterize the regulatory landscapes in tissues relevant to T1D/T2D, such as muscle and pancreatic tissues.

    Ames, Iowa, Us
Major advisor: Dr. Geetu Tuteja; Co-advisor: Dr. Karin Dorman.Research interests: High dimensional data analysis, clustering analysis, transcriptional regulation, human health.Working in the Tuteja Lab, I focused on modeling and integration of multi-omics data to study the regulatory landscapes governing early placenta development. In my first Ph.D. project, we utilized bulk RNA-seq data analysis and network analysis to obtain specific groups of genes that regulate placenta development. In my second project, I and collaborators developed a novel deep learning model to integrate signals across biological replicates to identify chromatin accessibility regions. My last Ph.D. project focused on integrating single cell RNA-seq and single nucleus ATAC-seq to characterize conservative regulatory elements between rat and human placenta.
