  Here, I drove snow leopard conservation and promoted environmental-friendly policies in the Baltistan region by mitigating human-wildlife conflict through livestock insurance schemes, construction of predator-proof corrals, and camera trapping population surveys.The nature of this job involved a lot of travelling to remote villages where local communities were directly impacted by snow leopard presence in the area. In order to mitigate the conflict, it was imperative to understand the dynamic from the locals' perspective who had to share the environment with this elusive cat. This often required more listening and less talking when looking for solutions. Making conservation of an apex predator seem favourable to a community which suffered huge losses because of it, was no easy task. Much more difficult was making donors understand that nature is not as romantic as we would like to believe. That is where balanced writing came into play to protect locals from future losses while also ensuring that the snow leopards were not hunted in retaliation. The insurance scheme, construction of corrals and camera trapping were crucial but the most important aspect of conservation was engaging school children for continuity in work. Hopes and ambitions were attached with the youth who saw the snow leopard less as an enemy and more as an asset for their region.
