As a Student Pathways Intern for the BLM, I spend the summer conducting Multiple Indicator Monitoring (MIM) surveys on multiple streams every week. I also participate electro-fishing surveys for fish depletion estimates and PIT-tagging.

As a TA for BYU-I's Principles of Wildlife Management class, I attend weekly labs and hold weekly TA hours to help students answer wildlife management questions using statistical analysis coded with R and Rstudio. I also help grade assignments, make assignments, and teach other useful skills like studying skills and how to use radio telemetry. In addition to this class, I also help the Stream Ecology class by driving students to different streams on weekly field trips and directing data collection such as discharge, transport time/distance, substrate, macroinvertebrate, widths/depths, riparian cover, and gradient measurements.

As a TA for BYU-I's Invertebrate Zoology class, I graded mutliple homework assignments a week from students who learned the anatomy, physiology, and ecology of all the animal phylums, orders, and some classes. I also performed tasks such as moving equiptment and insect specimens to a new lab room.

With a crew of three to four people, we travelled to over 40 streams across Idaho camping for three-five days at a time to perform habitat asssessments according to the Beneficial Use Reconaissance Program (B.U.R.P.) protocol. Protocol included assessing, pools, habitat type, bank stability, habitat cover, and outside influences on the streams. Samples included depths/widths, substrate, mactroinvertebrate, and electro-fishing samples.

My primary summer project involved organizing a comprehensive archive of scientific reports, articles, theses, and other literature for the Henry's Fork Foundation. In addition to this, I maintained two fences and cleaned a fish ladder twice a week, collected water samples from thirteen different sites twice a week, and assisted with weekly river discharge measurements. I also collaborated with fellow interns on their projects, participated in community and membership events, and attended over ten seminars led by various scientists. At the end of the season, I had the opportunity to present my summer achievements at a public seminar.
