I am a recently National Registry certified EMT, looking to gain more clinical experience and physician shadowing opportunities during my gap year before Medical School! My undergraduate research in biochemistry at Western Carolina University has focused on uncovering genetic switches in temperate mycobacteriophages. Assisting in a Laboratory setting has taught me sterile procedure, how to work as a team, to divide and conquer as well as brain-storm as a group, and to soak up knowledge from those who know so much. The experience continues to reveal that we each have a strength, and a way in which our brain works that allows us to be a unique and integral part of a team. My volunteer work has conjoined with shadowing experience, as an Intern for the Newberry County Coroner's office. This has allowed me to respond to scenes, as well as gain clinical experience in the Hospital in an autopsy setting under a Medical Examiner. I have helped navigate through tough calls, accepted decedent's medical and lifestyle histories, as well as learn how to properly communicate with the loved ones during possibly the hardest time in their lives, giving them the news they may not want to accept.
