During the course of my master's degree, I intern at the American Family Children's Hospital with the UW Child Protection Program. The UW Child protection Team provided education, advocacy, and comprehensive medical evaluations for all forms of child maltreatment. My role with the team was to provide support to children and families during the medical evaluations. In addition, I had to gather information from the children and families to complete a social history. This social history assessment also assisted in making reports to Child protective services when necessary. I also assisted families in connecting with other resources by giving contact information or referring them. Additionally, the UW child protection team also does education on "Hitting Hurts" and the "Period of purple crying" in the hospital. Finally, I started a Self-care/wellness project this year. The wellness project is incorporating self-care practices into the UW child protection Team. This team is exposed to very traumatic events and needs to make sure they are taking care of themselves. Therefore I added self-care activities/ check-ins to our monthly meetings and I sent out monthly emails with self-care tips and resources.

I interned at St. Martini for my undergrad degree. St. Martini is a small school for K4 through 8th grade, located in inner-city Milwaukee. Teachers would refer students to me because of social, emotional, educational, and/or behavioral problems. I would complete a bio-psycho-social assessment with each student to assess factors in their life contributing to their problems at school. I would meet with each student at least once a week to build rapport with students. After the students trusted me and were comfortable, we set goals together and do some sort of intervention plan. In addition, also lead a Respect group with some of the 4th graders at the school.
