Started as Trainee QS with Wimpey Construction UK and left main contracting in 1999 as Commercial Director of £150M turnover business.Commercial Director of an industrial and engineering construction contractor, involved extensive commercial administration, development and implementation of monitoring and reporting systems to protect the commercial interests of the company. Main Board member.• Vetting terms and conditions of tender and advising upon onerous conditions in the course of tender adjudication• Vetting design/performance specifications at tender stage and advising of any adverse design liability or specification ambiguity in the course of tender adjudication.• Checking consistency of orders received with tender and negotiating contractual issues with Clients as necessary to protect the Company’s interests.• Establishment of record systems on contracts including progress monitoring of cost against value, valuation and negotiation of variations and claims with emphasis on claims avoidance. Pre and post contract correspondence of a commercial and/or contractual nature.• Preparation of claims and defence of client or subcontractor claims.• Monitoring of all interim valuations and final accounts, including timeous cash collection and resolving any cash problems.• Dealing with all company litigation. Procuring all bonds or guarantees from company bankers or sureties to meet contractual requirements.• Maintenance of financial records of orders and sales, minimising cashflow exposure across all contracts. • Development and implementation of all commercial quality procedures and updating as necessary.• Procurement of all Subcontracts circa £40m pa.
