Provide support in making the museum collection more accessible to its visitors by updating and monitoring the database for the permanent collection. Help with the installation and deinstallation of exhibitions when necessary and complete collection management projects when assigned.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Perform data entry of object records in museum database • Accept and receive fine art shipments and oversee their packing and unpacking • Handle and transport different objects from the collection• Monitor visiting guests/classes who are viewing works from the collection• Manage and delegate tasks to collection assistants (graduate students at MSU)• Order storage supplies, re-house and relocate objects for permanent storage • Perform collection inventory• Complete condition reports on collection objects and new acquisitions• Use Photoshop on permanent collection images • Attend staff meetings for exhibitions and projects in place of Registrar when needed• Create object lists for exhibitions and or projects• Research and digitize past exhibitions from the Kresge Art Museum• Assist with monitoring the museum environment to assure that temperature and relative humidity read within the correct ranges accepted by museum standards• Execute detailed work using reasoning and problem-solving skills Show less

In this position I assist with collection inventory, handle and transport different objects from the collection, and help set up objects for classes and visiting guests. I have also accessioned, labeled, and measured over 1500 objects into the museum's collection. With those pieces I am also scanning and photoshopping them to be put into the database.

As a Gallery Guide I provided a professional environment when aiding in community events, facility rentals and fundraisers. I counseled visitors in how to interpret contemporary art and developed communicative skills with museum staff operators.

The focus of this position is to create framework for an inventory project of MSU Art on Campus with IPF staff. There will be gathering of information on artwork owned by various departments across campus, (which will involve visiting many buildings) and the pieces are labeled. Once information is gathered, it is entered into the database so that records are up to date. Reports are generated in order to track project progress.

Tasks include processing registrations, accession cross-offs, and regular cross-offs, as well as documenting and recording artwork both on loan to and owned by the MFA.
