I build relationships with the community, who are equally passionate about giving children opportunities to succeed. Although we're known for providing food, one of my favorite projects was giving kids a fresh pair of sneakers at Christmas. Kids who have experienced poverty carry a lot of shame around that. Those sneakers weren't just an article of clothing - they gave these kids the opportunity to go to school with self-confidence and participate fully in their education.

I had the privilege of serving as their first fundraiser! I also helped develop the business plan for their CHESS and Homeshare OC programs. Homeshare got funding from the Social Innovation Fund; it's a unique program to Orange County. It bridges the gap between college students and seniors to provide affordable housing. The CHESS program is centered around providing housing to college students.

OC Rescue Mission helps individuals transition out of the streets and into homes. As a grant writer, I got to develop relationships with foundations and funders to support our mission. I'll never forget bringing a funder to our program for men with substance use disorder and mental health diagnoses. The funders had a family connection to this work and a beautiful relationship formed from there.

We gave children experiencing homelessness the tools they needed to end the cycle of homelessness, one child at a time. I fast-tracked my fundraising experience here by planning our annual Anti-Gala (which raised double the amount raised in the previous year).
