In this role, I have had the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the Bench Testing lab. I’ve performed reliability reviews, conducted an internal audit, edited an ASTM standard, tested medical devices, helped with test method development, and organized management reviews.

My project focused on creating a device which rapidly detects bacteria at a high sensitivity, using electrochemiluminescence (ECL). I learned a lot about research; different lab techniques, being part of a research team, and how theory is put into practice.

At the NSWC, I helped run a STEM outreach program for students. This entailed helping the students learn how to program computers and wire a circuit correctly, as well as monitoring their safety and well-being. Through this experience, I gained appreciation for everyone who has helped me through my academic journey. I also learned how to better articulate ideas I know in a way that someone new to the subject would understand.

Greater Indianapolis

As an administrative assistant, I helped run the office smoothly: I sent letters to clients, checked that insurance paperwork was up to date, and filed bills and payments. I learned the importance of careful, meticulous work and having the responsibility of a part-time job while still in high school.
