My name is Haley Chancey, and I am a third year Pharm. D candidate at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Prior to pursuing my doctorate in pharmacy, I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of South Florida in 2021 in hopes of gaining the prerequisite knowledge necessary to engage in the field of pharmacy. As one of the most accessible healthcare providers, pharmacists have the opportunity to engage with all members of the community to guide and advocate for high quality patient-centered care. These are the qualities of a pharmacist I hope to embody in my practice. Throughout my years in the pharmacy program, my passion continues to lie in community pharmacy and the ability to build relationships with patients. After nearly three years working at Publix Pharmacy as both a pharmacy technician and intern, I have gained invaluable experience working directly with patients and other healthcare professionals and continue to find joy in educating patients on their medications and recommending the best therapeutic regimen for their overall health. Medication management for complex chronic disease states can be challenging, and as a future pharmacist, I hope to break down complicated treatment plans into easy-to-understand language to allow patients to take charge of their own health. With my recent induction into the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Rho Chi Honor Society chapter, I plan to utilize this opportunity to further build on my communication skills and intraprofessional teamwork experience to further prepare me for my career in pharmacy. I believe that gaining this experience will better equip me to counsel patients on their medications and disease states in the future, ensuring my patients understand how to take their medications and best impact their health. This practice will also prepare me to work in teams with a wide variety of healthcare professionals in which effective communication is key to providing care. I look forward to engaging with my classmates, faculty, preceptors, and all health professionals I may meet along the way as I work toward the completion of my Pharm. D and enter into the workforce!
