About Haley Hatfield, Ph.D., Mfa

I am currently working on my PhD in Journalism & Mass Communication PhD with Dr. Grace Ahn at the University of Georgia. My research explores race-related media effects with an emphasis on Whiteness and virtual environments. With my background in digital art (MFA, 2017, Louisiana State University), I develop virtual experiences coupled with psychophysiological measures to examine attitudes influenced by Whiteness to promote prosocial behaviors and attitudes. I am trained in collecting and analyzing psychophysiological measures like heart rate, skin conductance, and eye-tracking. I am a recipient of the 2022 AEJMC Collaborative Scholars Grant program, Top Papers in the Human Communication & Technology Division at the 2021 NCA 107th Annual Convention and the Information Systems Division at the 2022 ICA 72nd Annual Conference. I also hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas State University (2014) and a Master of Arts from Indiana University (2020).I am experienced in a wide range of computer programs such as Unity, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Aero, Spark, Dimension. I have proficient experience with Maya, 360-degree video, and photogrammetry. My MFA thesis utilized virtual reality and 360-degree videos to create an immersive documentary experience.
