Develop and teach two graduate courses: (1) “Sustainable Management of Civil Infrastructure Systems: Tools and Techniques”, and (2) “Engineering Project Management.”

o Investigator and Technical Coordinator of an NSERC-funded project, titled “Information Technologies in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Facilities Management (AEC/FM) in Canada.” Developed new algorithms and a software prototype to support interoperable distributed project systems, collaborative web-enabled tools, and data modeling using XML and ISO STEP standards.o Co-Principal Investigator for two client-funded projects: (1) 3D design, cost estimating, and erection simulation of falsework systems for cast-in place concrete box girder bridges. Sponsor: Hua Construction, Inc., Taiwan; and (2) “The Interoperability of Geographic Information Systems for Municipal Asset Management Applications.” Sponsor: National Research Council of Canada.o Developed CAD-based Building Information Models (BIM) models and software to support 3D modeling of buildings objects, construction schedules, and cost estimates.

o Assessed the structural adequacy of bridges by conducting diagnostic load testing and finite element modeling to calculate inventory and operating load rating factors based on the AASHTO guidelines (Sponsor: Bridge and Structures Division, Iowa Department of Transportation).

o Developed smart objects for the FactoryCAD software that supports the planning, layout, and design of factories and industrial facilities. o Lead Developer of the Materials Handling Suite which supports materials handling operations including configuration design, seismic design, and cost estimating.

Developed GIS-based sewer management system to support data integration and analysis of large sewer networks. Software was used to support a project for the City of Columbus, Ohio.

o Developed a distributed software system and data and process models to support integrated design and construction planning of highway bridges (Ph.D. thesis topic). Coordinated research with three leading bridge design and construction firms. (Sponsor: National Science Foundation and the Thomas French Fellowship program).o Conducted extensive research on developing visualization and virtual reality systems for visual simulation of construction processes. o Conducted research in the applications of artificial intelligence in the structural design and construction planning of capital facilities. o Developed a rule-based expert system to support design of shallow/deep foundations for multi-story buildings. o Visiting researcher at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Centre (PSC).

o Developed several CAD-based software tools to support structural design and analysis of concrete structures.o Participated in the structural design and analysis of several concrete and steel structures.

o Performed structural assessment of buildings, including in-situ and laboratory testing, design checks, and developing rehabilitation solutions if needed.o Developed a knowledge-based expert system to support foundation design of buildings. o Contributed to three strategic research projects: (1) Repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures; (2) Using high-grade steel in reinforced concrete; and (3) Assessment of the productivity of construction processes in buildings projects.

o Participated in the structural design and analysis of several projects including sewage treatment plant, chemical plant, and numerous residential and commercial buildings.

o Construction Engineer for a project to build a five story residential building. Responsible for planning and supervising construction operations and subcontractors, site management, and material procurement.
