Hal is founder and President of DOORDATA Solutions, Inc. and Kelton Sales Group. His experience in the commercial door and hardware and building industries spans 35 years. Hal conducts life safety and annual fire door inspections in the US & Canada and consults with other inspection companies as well as industry manufacturer’s regarding annual inspection requirements and provides expert witness consulting services to legal teams. He consults on projects for primary and secondary schools, college and university campuses, hospitals, banks, commercial office buildings, and resorts and hotels. Hal has contracted with QAI Labs, over the last ten years, as a Field Inspector and Field Inspector Trainer. Hal is a licensed General Building and Door Specialty contractor in California (inactive). He is a Professional Member of the International Code Council (ICC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Hal has volunteered as a National instructor for dhi since 1997, in 2007 he began teaching the new Fire Door Assembly Inspection (FDAI) class for dhi with fellow colleagues. He has served as a guest lecturer at DHI, NFMT, and ASHE National Conventions, he has contributed a number of articles to the international Doors & Hardware magazine and was a contributing author/expert for the book “Security for Colleges and Universities.” From 2009-2013, Hal also volunteered his time to the Door Security & Safety Foundation as an instructor for the fire door inspection course that it developed to educate building and fire regulatory communities. In 2022 Hal was appointed to serve as a Principal Technical Committee Member for NFPA 80 and NFPA 105 as a Special Expert.
