In my current role within Ofcom's Online Safety Group, my responsibilities include researching and evaluating critical AI risk mitigation and harm reduction strategies, the impact of emerging AI technologies on online safety, and their integration within the broader online technology landscape. Due to the complexity and interdisciplinary nature of this field, I often collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organisation, which has been an enriching experience working alongside diverse professionals with varied expertise. Leveraging the insights from this work, I provide expert technical guidance to online safety policy teams on key initiatives such as the consultations in relation to the new Online Safety Act, with the goal of promoting a safer digital environment. Recently, I started leading a research project, to establish a comprehensive understanding of current watermarking and providence tracking techniques for generative AI content. This involved a comparison of various techniques across diverse content types and effectiveness metrics, with findings informing an internal policy briefing. Additionally, I collaborated with a cross-functional team to gather evidence for red teaming deep-dive, conducting a red teaming exercise on a stable diffusion model, informing the red teaming best practice manual for policy discussion paper. With over 15 years of diverse experience in design, arts & culture, and advertising, I bring a combination of commercial acumen and creative problem-solving skills to complement my technical expertise. Motivated by technological innovation and its potential for positive social impact, I shifted my AI research focus towards the critical areas of safety, ethical development, and risk mitigation. I am a strong advocate for aligning AI with human values, ensuring that AI systems are developed and deployed in a manner that prioritises human well-being, fairness, and transparency through human-centred design principles and the inclusion of diverse perspectives. I believe that human governance is essential in guiding AI development, and I am committed to working towards a future where AI systems are designed and implemented with a focus on human-centred values, ethics, and social benefit.
