At inception, the committee was tasked with drafting and approving bylaws, investment guidelines and goals for the endowment. Currently, the committee oversees the endowment’s investment program.

Loral (NASDAQ: LORL) is a public company engaged in the satellite communications business. MHR chaired the unsecured creditors’ committee in Loral’s bankruptcy and I had extensive involvement in most major aspects of Loral’s reorganization. I was named to Loral’s board of directors upon its emergence from bankruptcy in 2005. During my tenure (a) Loral acquired Telesat Canada, becoming the fourth largest satellite company in the world; (b) Loral sold Space Systems/Loral, its satellite manufacturing subsidiary, to MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.; (c) Loral paid two substantial special dividends to its shareholders; and (d) Loral’s stock price increased approximately 2.5x (excluding dividends).

Northern Offshore (formerly OSLO Exchange: NOF.OL) was a public company that owned and operated four drill ships and one mobile production unit in Europe and Asia. Northern Offshore was an MHR portfolio position. During my tenure, I spearheaded the process of replacing the company’s CEO and I was instrumental in stabilizing the company’s operations and refinancing the company’s debt. The company was sold in 2015.

MHR is a private investment management firm focused on distressed and special situation investments. MHR’s clients include blue chip public pension funds, endowments, and family offices. I was COO and general counsel at the firm. I played a primary role in organizing MHR’s multiple private equity and hedge funds, including its initial funds. I also played a primary role in marketing MHR’s funds, including participating in investor pitch meetings and helping to create marketing materials. I sat on external and internal boards of directors and participated on official and ad hoc creditors’ committees on behalf of the firm.

United Kingdom And Faroe Islands

Faroe Petroleum, (formerly LSE: FPM), was an independent public oil and gas company focusing principally on exploration, appraisal and production opportunities in the Atlantic Margin, the North Sea and Norway. FP was an MHR portfolio position. During my tenure, I played a significant role in Faroe securing a pre-IPO round of financing from 3i Group plc, a UK-based private equity firm, and other institutional investors. I was also instrumental in Faroe’s IPO and listing on the London Stock Exchange. I left the Faroe board pre-IPO.

At Gordon Altman, a law firm, I was a corporate and restructuring lawyer, primarily focused on representing clients in complex restructuring transactions and bankruptcies. Representative clients included Icahn Holdings, Drexel Burnham Lambert (debtor in possession), Dean Witter InterCapital and Morgan Stanley.
