About Héctor Alzate
Hector is an Interactive Media Developer that has worked both in industry and formal research. He sees himself as a leader with a pragmatic approach to problem solving, he believes that new media still has both potential for tackling complex issues and as a powerful tool for storytelling.Hector graduated from Universidad EAFIT and Thompson Rivers University with a double degree in Computing Science and Systems Engineering, he did so thanks to the Emergent Leaders in Latin America Program that funded scholarships for outstanding individuals running program with high social impact.He co-created the Videogames and Virtual Reality Research group in EAFIT, place where serious games and interactive experiences where developed to be used in areas such as health and education. Also got the chance to develop projects under the Undergraduate Research Experience Program, where he continued his research.Once graduated he started working in the growing game industry in Colombia as part of Brainz, where he got to lead a team of developers working on innovative tools and products that marketed for worldwide audiences.Following his interest in fostering the growth of the game industry in his city, he started working with the local developer community and became co-host of the local Unity Developer Group. Then he went on and started teaching as an Associate Instructor at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, as part of an innovative program that aims to train professionals in Interactive Media Products development.Besides being enrolled in the MDM program at the Centre for Digital Media, he works both as a freelance developer for several companies worldwide in the areas of education, entertainment and publicity; and as the CTO of Madbricks, an emergent Indie Game Development studio based in Colombia that has won several awards to push forward the quality level of the experiences developed in a growing economy.
