I originally started work on building sites when I was 16, and have always found enormous enjoyment in learning the practical elements involved in architectural construction. It was this hands on experience that persuaded me to go on to study the subject and understand how to combine the creative aspects of design with a practical understanding of the construction processes.Having worked for both large and small practices, as well as doing my own small scale project management, I have developed a wide variety of site experience, seeing construction from both a contractual and architectural perspective. Having worked in both fields, I believe it important the lead designer has a fundamental understanding the physical processes, thus placing them in a stronger position to advise and instruct others.During my last year at Westminster University, the brief was to find funding and realise your project. The completion of the tea house required through consideration of every aspect of the design, the management of the budget and overall costings, as well as a detailed understanding of each individual process in order to complete the build. The experience required learning on the job, quick decision making and adapting to complications as they arose on site. The last two tears in industry and has given me a greater understanding of how large practices work, as well as the opportunity to work on both commercial and residential projects. It gave me experience working with clients and contractors, and in doing so I found I was good at communicating ideas and working one to one with people to find the best solutions to problems as they arose. In addition to architecture I am generally active enjoying climbing and squash, with cycling being my proffered mode of transport. I am a social person, and have the honour of organising the monthly gathering for the architecture and design members at the Chelsea Arts Club.
