Hamish is a Partner in the international law firm Baker Botts (UK) LLP with over 20 years legal practice in the energy and oil & gas sector, specialising in international transactions and projects. His clients include listed and private companies, Governments & national oil companies, and a range of investors across the globe. Hamish is particularly skilled in M&A, joint venture formation and disputes, project development, and commercial & marketing matters in the oil & gas upstream and midstream sectors, including LNG and gas development & transportation projects. Hamish is ranked as a leading oil & gas lawyer in a range of leading directories, and is one of 5 2017, Who's Who Oil & Gas "Thought Leaders" in the UK. As a Partner Hamish undertakes various management responsibilities in the Baker Botts firm-wide and departmental energy and business development sectors, and in the Firm's Diversity and Inclusion programme.

Hamish trained as a lawyer at Lovell White Durrant (now Hogan Lovells), and in his training was seconded to ARCO British Limited (subsequently acquired by BP Plc). At ARCO Hamish developed his interest in the oil & gas upstream which he has developed throughout his career, including in a subsequent secondment to BP Plc to assist in the disposal of UK assets following ARCO's acquisition by BP.

Hamish worked on the British Plc Gas (subsequently National Transmission / Transco) National Gas Transmission System, in the planning and construction department, with responsibility for environmental impact assessment, planning liaison, land management habitat protection and landscaping. His work covered new pipeline routing and project development, maintenance of the existing pipeline network, compressor stations, terminals, above grounds installations, liquefied natural gas storage and underground (salt cavern) storage sites, across Scotland, England and Wales.
