The Waikato based WEL Networks was successful in winning a Ultra Fast Broadband contract to be one of the NZ Government partners to deliver to businesses and homes high speed fibre networks. WEL Networks then formed a special purpose company called Waikato Networks Ltd which then formed a new company with Crown Fibre Holdings Ltd and this is called Ultrafast Fibre Ltd.
