Head of Hamilton Locke Newcastle and partner in our national construction and infrastructure practice. I focus on ensuring our clients understand the legal risks within their commercial framework, partnering with our clients to achieve an outcome rather than being a roadblock. I strive to provide reasonable, considered and actionable advice. In 2024 I am the lecturer at the University of Newcastle for the Construction Law and Legislation course in the Construction Management degree in the School of Architecture and Built Environment. I am commonly engaged to act for contractors, constructors and construction professionals across the built environment space, with deep experience in civil infrastructure (roads, rail, utilities and logistics), commercial and social infrastructure (schools, education facilities, shopping centres), power infrastructure (wind and solar). My team’s common engagements include assisting with project documentation and negotiations, project delivery and disputes (SOP, court and tribunal proceedings). A brief summary of recent work undertaken by my team includes;Drafting Adjudication applications, responses and statements in complex Security of Payment matters;Drafting contracts and advising clients on large civil construction projects; Acting for clients in respect of disputes around delays, defects and other common construction problems; and Advising asset owners on structure, risks and associated issues on various residential and commercial developments.
