Lisbon Area, Portugal

I was a summer intern for 1 month. My tasks included building a test rig for the drone, building a mock wind turbine blade and building a housing to transport the drone.It was a great opportunity to work with an amazing team and further develop my design/build skills. I was also able to learn a great deal about what makes a start-up business succeed or fail.

Philippines

I spent 3 months working for HSSi, which is a for profit social organisation based in Manila, supplying solar technology to developing communities in the Philippines. In particular I spent 1 month working in Eastern Visayas, which was the area most devastated by the destructive Haiyan typhoon. We installed over 40 small PV systems in birthing centers.

Myanmar

I was asked to help an NGO working in Myanmar called 'Solar Roots'. They design, supply, install and maintain residential size solar systems for developing communities in rural Myanmar. I was involved heavily with a particularly challenging installation at an orphanage on the Myanmar/India boarder.Below is a link to my blog describing my experience.

Cambodia

I volunteered at NRG Solutions in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. My main task here was designing, procuring and assembling a small solar system for residential lighting, charging and TV.Below is a link to my blog describing the experience.

Gisborne & Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Built a 200m^2 beach house for my parents. Began with a patch of grass and saw the project through to completion. For the first 8 months I was working with an experienced builder and alongside him carried out such tasks as:- Foundations (concrete slab)- Standing, straightening and plumbing frames- Fixing trusses and rafters- All aspects of roofing.

Tonga

Was part of a team of volunteers from the University of Canterbury installing photovoltaic systems in Tongan high schools. We designed, procured and installed five 8kW systems. The mission was funded by New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). I lead the installation team and carried out such tasks as:- Onsite adjustments of theoretical.
