Working within the Atmospheric Physics group, focusing on improving our understanding of carbon turnover in the terrestrial biosphere using simple box models. Using Matlab and Python to develop mathematical models and statistical methods in order to find creative ways to analyse and understand large datasets from earth system models.• Modelling: Designing and developing simple models of biospheric carbon turnover in the terrestrial biosphere in order to quantitatively analyse and improve the accuracy of complex earth system models.• Data analysis: Cleaning and preparing data from earth system models for use in various experiments. Producing clear and understandable results and finding creative ways to present them visually. Running statistical analyses to test the reliability and significance of my results.• Software development: Developing my skills in Matlab, Python and Bash in order to build and run models on a Linux supercomputer, manipulate datasets and produce meaningful outputs.• Collaborating: Working together within a multi-disciplinary research group and collaborating with modellers doing related projects globally. Getting feedback from colleagues and reading and critiquing others’ work.• Communication: Presenting research methods and results within the group and the broader scientific community both orally and in written form.• Independent research and time management: Developing effective strategies for time management and productivity, balancing my time between meetings, data processing, modelling, reading journals and writing.
