My wife, Erin, and I, have always believed investing in real estate was the key to building wealth. Beginning with single-family rental properties, over time, our portfolio has grown to include multi-family and commercial (office/retail) properties. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley (Cal) – GO BEARS! – in 1995, I went to work in the car business. What was supposed to be a short stint to make a little money before going on to law school turned into a 23-year career. I started out as a car salesman and worked my way up to General Manager and minority owner of The Razzari Auto Centers in Merced, CA.When you are running a multi-dealership group like I was, there was so much to pay attention to – sales, service, parts, inventories, employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction...more sales. Every week, I put in over 70 hours. I was in the office Monday through Saturday and checking in on Sundays. For a long time, I loved it! It was exciting and fun, but....70 hours a week wears on you.So, in 2018, at the age of 46, I left the go-go-go of the car business a in my rearview mirror. It was our investments in real estate that allowed me to do that.I spent the first few years buying more real estate and learning everything I could about real estate investing. I’ve read hundreds of books, watched hours and hours of seminars, and listened to every real estate related podcast I could find.I took a job as COO of Real Estate 101, a company that trains people how to invest in commercial real estate.I even owned a real estate brokerage - Next Door Real Estate.
