Under this capacity, I provide support for UNEP through UNEP-WCMC’s capacity and engagement in and with China in the areas of biodiversity and natural capital. A particular emphasis of my role is placed on UNEP’s support to the Government of China for hosting of the Convention on Biological Diversity Conference of the Parties in 2021 and 2022, in Kunming, and on the integration of biodiversity within UNEP’s ongoing and future programmatic engagement with China. My position is based in the UNEP China Office located in Beijing, under the direct supervision of the Head of the UNEP China Office and the Director of UNEP-WCMC, and the overall supervision of the UNEP Regional Director.

As the Inaugural Executive Director of WCMC Beijing Co., LTD (hereafter 'WCMC Beijing'), I was overall responsible for establishing and managing WCMC Beijing.My major achievements include:1. Established and fully operationalized WCMC Beijing.2. Successfully convened series of Board Meetings on quarterly basis, with appraisals provided by the WCMC Beijing Shareholder Representative (Chair of WCMC Board of Trustees) and invited Observers (members of UNEP-WCMC Senior Management Team).3. Led a flagship project commissioned by GIZ in support of Sino-German Biodiversity Cooperation within the Sino-German Environment Partnership II in the context of CBD and Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. The project involves multiple stakeholders as well as political and technical partners across three countries: China, the UK and Germany. I set up proactive and pragmatic approaches to facilitate constructive discussions among all engaged parties, which has proven to be effective to ensure the project's timely delivery via overcoming barriers led by cultural differences.4. Developed a new partnership with China's Shenzhen Municipality for supporting Shenzhen to explore how the values of nature can be integrated into their policy and practice for the management of natural resources. This will help to reveal the full values of nature in the city, the many benefits it provides to residents, and the range of economic activity that naturalresources in the city support.

This position was provided by WCMC, in support of UNEP-WCMC's effort in Asia-Pacific, specifically China. Under this capacity, I led the development and delivery of an impactful portfolio of UNEP-WCMC's work in and with China; developed a diverse range of partnership with both public and private sector stakeholders; and established the structure of an operational mechanism (WCMC Beijing) for UNEP-WCMC's projects in China.My major achievements include:1. Led UNEP-WCMC's regionalisation effort in and with China, by developing the organisation's China strategy to address some of the most impactful topics in sectors such as infrastructure, trade, cities and agriculture, for sustainable development.2. Developed partnerships and engagement with key stakeholders both in China and internationally regarding biodiversity, climate change, sustainable development and other international conventions.3. Led and contributed to the development of a growing project portfolio (total of 33m+ USD as of July 2020) that involved major components for implementing the UNEP-WCMC's China strategy.4. Led the development, conceptual design and delivery of the China components under UNEP-WCMC's flagship development projects, incl. China Business and Biodiversity Partnership (138K USD), Trade Hub (26m USD), Development Corridors Partnership (6m USD), Global Infrastructure Modelling and Mapping (0.6m USD), Chengdu cities project (28,200 USD), Sino-German Biodiversity Cooperation within the Sino-German Environment Partnership II (1.2m USD).5. Established strategic partnerships with influential public and private sector stakeholders in China to provide tailored support for their decision-making process to effectively integrate biodiversity.6. Set up the operational structure for UNEP-WCMC's projects in China through the establishment of a legal entity in Beijing (WCMC Beijing Co., LTD).

Led and delivered the climate change vulnerability assessment for a Tanzania REDD+ safeguards project. Resulted in becoming the first author of a peer-reviewed journal paper based on findings from the Tanzania project to identify conservation gaps and needs for the country. Key contributor to two West African projects by making assessments and recommendations to both the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund’s future investment plan and the Protected Areas Resilient to Climate Change (PARCC) project.
