Han Dols leads the Business Development & Entrepreneurship Section at CERN in Geneva and serves as Deputy of the CERN Knowledge Transfer Group. He is responsible for fostering industrial strategic partnerships, innovation alliances, and managing the entrepreneurship program across the 23 CERN Member States. His goal is to accelerate innovation by collaborating with the most pioneering companies and start-ups, leveraging CERN’s extensive hardware and software technologies in computing, accelerator, and detector fields. Han has consistently driven innovation across various roles and industries, drawing on his expertise in physics, business development, and marketing strategy. He is also a certified AI business advisor and co-founder of the Open Source Program Office at CERN.Before joining CERN, Han spent 15 years at DSM, a global leader in life and material sciences. At DSM, he led strategic marketing planning for diverse industrial segments, including automotive, electronics, and industrial coatings. Prior to that, he was part of the DSM Innovation Center, where he oversaw global business development for the world’s strongest fiber used in medical applications such as heart valves, covered stents, and orthopedic devices. Han also developed and executed a strategy for launching a portfolio of regenerative medical materials in Europe and Asia.Han co-founded and served as CEO of HumanXR, a Dutch digital health startup focused on developing a virtual reality platform for physical and mental activation. Under his leadership, HumanXR successfully launched its first VR platform in early 2018.At CMG, a London-based consultancy, Han managed digital technology projects related to data management and e-business platforms, collaborating with major clients such as Daimler-Benz, Vodafone, and Philips. He began his career in 1994 at Medtronic, where he led pan-European projects to evaluate innovative pacemaker technologies for treatment of heart failure. At Leyenburg Hospital in the Netherlands, he conducted an EEG data analytics project aimed at predicting strokes.Han holds degrees in applied physics and computer science from TU Delft. He is also an alumnus of IMD (Geneva), Webster University (Leiden), the Haas School of Management at the University of California, and the Frankfurt School of Management and Finance.
