- Working on an independent project under the Center for the Utilization of Biological Engineering in Space (CUBES) initiative, optimizing the metabolic engineering of a specifically engineered E.coli strain to facilitate the uptake of non-natural polymer precursors and their subsequent polymerization, aiming to scale the production of high-performance, bio-available thermoplastics- Demonstrated low cell viability and lack of monomer polymerization when co-fed culture with lactic acid monomers with EDTA permeabilizer at high concentrations, which indicated lactate as unfavorable substrate for our designed metabolic engineering pathway- Utilizing a CRISPR/Cas9 mediated Lambda Red Homologous Recombination System to knock out the glc locus of E.coli JM109, to investigate the uptake and polymerization of glycolide monomers without interference from the endogenous glycolate metabolism

- Leading a team of 9 undergraduates to engineer L. lactis bacteria through designing and optimizing its nisin-controlled gene expression system (NICE) to express antifungal proteins and metabolites to inhibit the growth of penicillium fungus on feta cheese- Designing and optimizing wetlab assays including SDS-PAGE, Schales, zone inhibition, and colorimetric assays to quantify antifungal production and efficacy of the engineered strain in mold inhibition as compared to known positive controls - Obtained knowledge and experience of synthetic biology and hands-on skills such as oligonucleotide design, Gibson assembly transformation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequencing, developing assays, Benchling; and team management skills including experimental planning, leading team training, planning budgeting and long-term vision, and collaboration with other teams

Optimized assay efficiency and precision by reducing runtime by 50%, reagents usage by 70%, and achieving a calibration curve R-square value exceeding 0.999 - Collaborated in the development and validation of analytical and quality control methodologies, including HPLC, GPC, FTIR, DSC, IVRT, and GC-FID, to validate their accuracy and precision according to FDA regulatory requirements

Developed and prototyped a low-cost, easy-to-assemble and use rehabilitation device for patients with Temporomandibular joints (TMJ) disorder such as trismus, under the supervision of Dr. Robert Matthew. Self-taught and regularly used computer aided design (CAD) softwares including Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360. Worked with a team of doctors at UCSF Health and implemented their feedback on the device. The device will soon be used clinically to treat a group of patients at UCSF.
