Hanif Mouehla is a rising sophomore undergraduate at Harvard University and an anticipated BA candidate in Neuroscience (focus on Neurobiology) with a minor in Global Health and Health Policy. Since being cured of sickle cell disease as a child, Mouehla became determined to make an impact in the healthcare industry, growing and developing analytical, interpersonal, as well as both clinical and laboratory research skills. Mouehla began this pre-professional experience during the summer of 2022, interning as a laboratory volunteer at New York Medical College (NYMC), affiliated with WMCHealth—a large health network based in Hudson Valley, NY. There, using mice models, he helped to gather findings on potential stem cell treatment options for severe aplastic anemia, earning a citation inside a published abstract. Two summers later, Mouehla returned to NYMC and WMCHealth as a Clinical Research Associate, shadowing outpatient healthcare providers, as well as gathering and analyzing fertility data for patients who received a haploidentical hematopoietic somatic stem cell transplant, a life-saving procedure he himself underwent a decade prior, reemphasizing his active desire to give back.
