Hired in at trainee level and learned standard operating procedures quickly. Monitored computer screens in control room and made adjustments. Used Ovation Controls. Operated, monitored and regulated H2O demineralizing plant. Ran samples on all water streams and modified to keep water chemistry correct (silica, pH, chlorine, conductivity). Water streams included demineralizing plant, cooling tower, closed loop cooling system, demineralizing H2O storage tank, boiler feed water, and high (600 psi) and low (50 psi) pressure steam drums.The plant was a 55 megawatt cogeneration power plant which included the prime mover, a Westinghouse gas turbine model; a steam turbine, also Westinghouse; and a Nooter Ericksen heat recovery steam generator with selective catalyst reduction (ammonia injection).Additional responsibilities included monitoring oil levels on equipment and signs of failure. Plant operated with one operator per shift requiring the ability to work quickly and diligently without supervision. This necessitated the operator to go outside and quickly make a round, then return to control room and check monitors for any issues. Completed daily reports on megawatt sales, gas usage, steam sales and emissions monitoring. Locked out tag outs for maintenance, completed entry permits and hot work permits, and performed outside contractor orientation. Ordered chemicals including sulfuric acid, caustic, anhydrous ammonia, chlorine and water treatment chemicals. Completed GPI computer-based training, CPR training, HAZWOPER training and computer-based training courses on CPR, HazCom, crane signals and arc flash, etc.
