My current side job is tutoring two children, both in their first years of high school. I provide extra help and attention for them to better comprehend mainly the subjects mathematics and Dutch. Based on my earlier experience at StudyWorks (see below), I find it very enjoyable and fulfilling to work closely with children and to understand and see their progress.

As a second-year ICM student, I was able to become an assistant to the teachers and point of contact for two first-year classes. I was working on projects within the ICM program committee to improve the curriculum and offer advice and support in classes. Also, I helped organize the open days, which were filled with presenting our program and meeting prospective students. Lastly, I found it very important to be there for students who needed some extra help through the year with their studying, groupwork, or personal development.

This job has given me a lot of insight into restaurant and hotel management. The restaurant, bar, reception, and housekeeping all worked closely together. The hotel experience was a great oppertunity to meet so many different people from a variety of countries and cultures. Everyday was different, and through this job, I became a more strategic, focused and patient worker with a good set of people skills.

My first tutoring job was through StudyWorks. I worked with multiple children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old and helped them with their schoolwork and exam preparations. On elementary level, I taught mathematics, Dutch (reading, grammar & spelling), and studytips.For me, this was more than just teaching their school's curriculum; it was also about regaining their self-confidence and understanding what their strengths and weaknesses are. We discover together what learning style fits us best and how we can grow and develop in our own pace.

My first work experience in a restaurant taught me a lot about teamwork, internal communication, customer service, and working efficiently and precisely. It was an interesting insight to build new perspectives on in future jobs.

This high school internship at the Wereldwinkel gave me my first impressions of a non-profit organization within The Netherlands. I got to learn a lot about the fair trade food and non-food products that were sold and the charities the profits went to. As an employee in the store, I helped with sales, maintenance and administration.
