Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Energy and Climate Research - Materials Synthesis and Processing (IEK-1) in the Materials for High-Temperature Technologies group

Title of dissertation:“Phase relations in the YBa2Cu3O7-x-SiO2 system and the impact on superconducting fibers”.Main research topics:Phase relations and high temperature kinetics in the YBCO-SiO2 system.High-temperature superconducting fibers.Manufacturing and characterizationCharacterization and field-testing of high temperature stable fiber optical sensors.Design and manufacturing of glass-clad fibers drawn using a fiber draw tower.Characterization techniques used:SEM-EDS, DSC-TGA, XRD, XPS and Raman spectroscopy.

Hanna was part of a two semester study abroad program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) during the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters. Throughout this program, she was enrolled in three courses, “Semiconductors and Heterostructures”, “Mathematical Methods” and “Advanced Nanomaterials”, where she achieved a 4.0/4.0 GPA. She also conducted research at the Innovative Particulate Materials Laboratory. After the completion of her Bachelor Degree in October 2012, Hanna joined the dispersive solids research group, at the Materials Science department of TU Darmstadt, as a research assistant for almost a year. Her research included, besides the continuation of her bachelor’s thesis ‘’Synthese und Charakterisierung ZnOxNy-basierter Materialien’’, the synthesis and characterization of metal-DTPA. Throughout her bachelor’s thesis and her subsequent research assistant position at TU Darmstadt, Hanna was involved in many independent as well as team-based laboratory work and research projects.Research topics:Synthesis and characterization of ZnOxNy based materials.Synthesis and characterization of metal-DTPA-complexes.Characterization techniques used:SEM-EDS, XRD, DSC-TGA, Elemental analysis, UV-VIS spectroscopy, Fluorescence spectroscopy, BET analysis, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy.Teaching:Lab course: Synthesis and characterization of BaTiO3 using solid state reaction and sol-gel synthesis.

During her bachelor studies, Hanna worked for two years at Esprit GmbH as a shop assistant. Her responsibilities included stock and shop channel management. This job provided a valuable learning experience in terms of working in large teams and showing work discipline and professionalism.
