The Early Career Fellowship supports completing Warwick PhD students who wish to establish themselves in an academic career. Early Career Fellows receive a bursary, training to develop their academic leadership skills and support to produce career enhancing outputs from their thesis.

My responsibilities as a graduate teaching assistant include: - Teaching within a seminar context. - Offering support to members of academic staff when required. - Developing teaching methods and approaches. - Developing supplementary teaching materials. - Supervising student work. - Undertaking assessment of students. - Course administration. I have taught in person and have adapted my teaching experience to become an effective teacher online as well. In 2019 I took on the role of guidance writer for the Warwick International Higher Education Academy at the University of Warwick. This role meant writing guidance for staff at the university on how to best support gender-diverse and trans students in an academic setting. I previously worked part-time as a cashier in Betfred. I have become adept as handling large amounts of money and entering data accurately.

My role as a support worker consisted of me providing notes for students with disabilities by attending their lectures and copying down the relevant notes in the style that the student required. I also provided practical support, and this included a variety of different activities that depended on what the student needed.

Early in 2019 I was a teaching assistant on the module Queering Sociology at the University of Warwick in the Sociology Department. This module, convened by Dr Cath Lambert, looks at what 'queer' is and what it does as well as its benefits and limitations to sociological research. My role allowed me to support a mix of third year undergraduate and masters students in the various activities that they took part in during the duration of the module.

As a team member I worked on the bar and as a waitress in a busy pub. I worked as part of a team and occasionally on my own on quiet days. This improved my ability to coordinate myself as part of a group and by myself. I also was entrusted with training other staff members when needed.

As a study skills mentor, I met up to four mentees a week and offered peer to peer academic support. I helped students excel in their studies, raise their academic standards and reach their full potential, especially in the uncertain first year of University. I taught key skills such as referencing; how to structure and write the different kinds of assignments; how to give presentations; exam and revision tips and how to receive and develop on feedback given by the lecturers. These are just some examples of what SMART Buddies offered as each student requires a different kind of academic support depending on what course they do and what they already feel confident doing. To help provide this support, I was given training throughout the year from the Study Skills team at the University of Winchester.

The Winchester Research Apprenticeship Programme consisted of students working alongside an academic, contributing to a piece of research. The piece of research I contributed to was Dr Ellie Woodacre’s project on the lands of Joan of Navarre. I worked through the Patent Rolls online, looking for any information on Joan, in particular what lands and money she had in her possession.

As a cleaner at the Winchester Royal Hotel, I worked efficiently to tidy and remake rooms during the early hours of the morning. This experience helped heighten my attention to detail.

As a team member I worked at the till and coordinated the shop during the busy school period. I ensured people got served quickly and efficiently as they came into the shop. This experience improved my ability to work as part of a team as well as allowing me to coordinate efficiently during busy times. My customer service skills improved immensely also.
