About Hannah Baddock
Biomedical research scientist with over 7 years of experience in cancer biology. Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, USA.Recently finished a 2.5 year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Oncology at the University of Oxford researching genome stability and DNA damage repair factors. The project was at the interface between biochemical enzyme characterisation, structural biology (primarily X-ray crystallography), and small molecule inhibitor drug development.Prior to this, completed a PhD (DPhil), also at the University of Oxford, co-supervised by Prof. Peter McHugh in the Department of Oncology, and Prof. Opher Gileadi at the Structural Genomics Consortium.
Listed skills include Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Purification, Molecular Cloning, and 8 others.

Hannah Baddock work experience
A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Postdoctoral Researcher
My research focussed primarily on understanding the structure and function of the human MBL nucleases: SNM1A, SNM1B (Apollo), and SNM1C (Artemis). The aim was to understand how they each contributed to genome integrity, their role in human health / disease, and how they could be targeted with potential therapeutic efficacy. This utilised skills in: protein purification, enzymatic / biochemical assays, high through-put inhibitor screening, structure-based drug development, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, and cellular survival assays. These projects were also highly collaborative and I worked closely with both medicinal chemists and structural biologists.
Tutor In Biochemistry
Organised Tutorial sessions for 3rd year undergraduates in Molecular & Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. I structured the syllabus, provided a general reading list, assigned, corrected and marked essays relating to DNA biology. Topics included the processes and regulation of DNA transcription and replication, as well the DNA damage response, and DNA damage repair pathways.
Dphil Candidate
DPhil in the Oncology Department, based at the Weatherall Institute for Molecular Medicine. My project focussed on understanding the structure and function of the SNM1B/Apollo exonuclease, and how it contributes to genome integrity, both through its role in telomere maintenance and in DNA damage repair pathways. I also researched the novel DNA repair nuclease, EXD2, and performed an extensive biochemical characterisation of its enzymatic function.
Research Intern
I was awarded a Health Sciences Prestigious Summer Scholarship to carry out a 10-week research project. This was supervised by Professor Liz Ledgerwood and characterised a mouse G41S, A44P cytochrome c mutation and its effects on apoptotic activity, peroxisome activity, and redox potential. For this research project I received the Otago School of Medical Sciences Dean's Prize for Best Summer Project Report.
Research Intern
I was awarded an Otago School of Medical Sciences Summer Scholarship to undertake a 10-week research project. This project was supervised by Professor Sally McCormick and focussed on understanding the role of antioxidants in inhibitor Cu2+ induced LDL oxidation in vitro.
