I am a recent graduate of Vanderbilt University’s class of 2022 where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish. I am about to embark on a new journey—medical school in my home state of Mississippi.During my last two years of undergraduate studies, I worked as a Research Assistant with the Johnston Group, an organic chemistry lab focused primarily on effective synthesis of compounds. This experience was through the NIH-funded MARC (Maximizing Access to Research Careers) program, of which I was an inaugural student and Vanderbilt.I also served on the board of two student organizations at Vanderbilt. For the Vanderbilt Chapter of the Global Medical Missions Alliance (GMMA), I was the PR coordinator. I also performed similar duties for the NAACP Student Chapter of Vanderbilt, where I served as the Publicity Committee Chair.With my experiences and my degrees, I am entering medical school in the fall to earn my MD. With my earned accreditation, I aspire to work in medicine as both a doctor and researcher so that I can serve my hometown rural community.
