Implemented the Second Step Social-Emotional Skills for Early Learning curriculum with three classrooms of preschool-aged children at the Belleville Head Start Program. Second Step is supported by research and includes 28 lessons focusing on empathy, emotion management, & friendship.

Supervised and trained research assistants to implement the Compassion Approach to Learn Meditation (CALM) program to the juvenile detainees at Madison County Detention Center. Supervised research assistants during implementation of the CALM program at Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. Trained research assistant on coding and entering the data collected from the CALM program each week. Gained experience working in SPSS and how to modify the data previously entered to be condensed and more organized. Assisted in finding authors for Dr. Jewell’s (Editor-in-Chief) team to contact about the headers in the Encyclopedia of Adolescent Development that is under contract.

Assisted the professor by attending the 3-hour classes twice a week to provide additional help in answering student questions, provided feedback to literature reviews for edits on grammatical and APA formatting errors, and provided 3-hour review sessions for students before the midterm and final exams. Graded the weekly quizzes, semester midterm and final, and entered grades for the students into SIUE’s academic server. Gained additional practice of SPSS skills by assisting students on how to use, run, and analyze data. Additionally, prepared and independently taught a lesson to the classroom on a section of the materials gaining hands-on experience instructing a class.
