I am a bilingual (English/German) biologist with a background in IT. I have a MSc in biology (biodiversity, evolution and ecology), during which I focused on social immunity in termites. My other research interests include entomology, protistology, microbiology, and molecular biology.During my bachelor's thesis, I used a mix of molecular biology (primarily RNA extraction and qPCR) and bioinformatics (identifying candidate genes within a pre-existing RNAseq dataset) to identify stable genes in mealworm beetles (Tenebrio molitor). As a student, I also had the opportunity to participate in research into tri-trophic interactions involving pine sawflies (Diprion pini) and to assist in the rearing of tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta) larvae. More recently, I had a student assistant job working on cyanobacterial Photosystem II in a biophysics lab, which I left to focus on my own research.
