I am an undergraduate student currently in the Human Development and Family Studies program. During my sophomore year, I became aware of the Prevention and Intervention graduate program while researching different CSU programs. In my current role as an undergraduate student at CSU, I have a dual concentration in Prevention and Intervention Science as well as Leadership and Advocacy. My time at CSU has strengthened my personal values such as dependability, adaptability, flexibility, and emotional intelligence. Prior to my time at CSU, I have worked at two different children’s shelters. One was an emergency shelter where we took in any child from the ages of four to seventeen. In this shelter we tried to keep a sense of normalcy for the children while teaching them life skills. The second shelter was a therapeutic home for children ages five to twelve. I taught life skills, socio-emotional skills, as well as supervising visits with family. I have also worked at a residential treatment center for teenaged girls who were in foster care or in a juvenile detention program. I organized field trips and campus activities as well as providing the girls with anger management skills. At all three places, I helped children with life skills and provided a safe space for children to learn and grow. Currently, I am working at a middle school as an Autism paraprofessional. I help students with life, academic, and socioemotional skills. These jobs have taught me patience, empathy, respect, and inclusion.
