As a Paralegal and Trainee at this firm I worked in the Child Abuse, Family, Wills & Probate and Personal Injury Departments. I also spent time on secondment at a Conveyancing firm.As part of the Abuse team, I managed my own high value, multi track cases from initial instruction through to settlement. I took initial instructions from clients not only at the office, but also at prison and in their homes. I have drafted legal aid applications, instructed medical experts and Counsel, corresponded with Defendant Solicitors and conducted my own advocacy, as well as shadowing Counsel at Court during Trial. I have drafted Court documents, advised clients throughout the process, drafted costs schedules and negotiated costs with the Defendants. In addition, I was involved with the St Aidan's/St Vincent's/St George's Group Action and worked closely with the Co-ordinating Solicitor to co-ordinate the action. In the Personal Injury department I assisted with a range of mattres, including Occupiers Liability, Employer's Liability, Public Liability, Slips and Trips and RTA's, including use of the Portal. I have taken intiail instructions from clients, completed risk assessments, instructed medical experts and Counsel. I have also drafted applications to Court.In the Family department I interviewed and advised clients in relation to all aspects of family proceedings, such as child contact, divorce and ancillary relief. I also represented clients at Court in interim applications. In the Wills & Probate department I took initial instructions from clients in preparation for drafting their Wills and Codicils. As part of my time in this seat I also took part in St Ann's Wills week, helping to raise money for St Ann's Hospice. On secondment I drafted Land Registry applications, prepared Home Buyers Legal Reports, Deeds of Easement and was tasked with legal research. During my time at this firm I have also participated in the College of Law Mentoring Scheme.
