The Active Travel and Health team leads TfL’s thinking on the future development of policies and interventions to grow walking and cycling, for all or part of a journey, and ensure people and their health are put at the heart of decision making. My role is to lead the development of TfL's Walking Plan for London, to encourage more people to walk more often and further, in order to reach TfL's goal to get all Londoners meeting their minimum physical activity levels through active travel by 2041."The Active Travel and Health will steer TfL to enable more people to walk, cycle and use public transport by putting people and their health at the heart of decision making. As experts in active travel and public health we will lead the organisation in embedding the Healthy Streets Approach and support others to do the same. We will ensure the necessary policy tools are developed and used to deliver year on year progress towards the physical activity target in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy."

Working in the Mayors Transport Strategy team, to develop innovative policies for the new Mayor, including the ‘good growth’ policy area and Healthy Streets-focused proposals. I led the development of the 'Spatial Approach' work stream in the draft MTS, bringing to life how transport investment can shape the development and growth of different areas of London. I have also been providing strategic transport input into the ‘Final Business Case’ for the Oxford Street Transformation project, ‘flagship’ Mayoral project in the draft MTS.

TfL Planning and ProjectsResponsible for the scheme development of the proposed southern extension of the Bakerloo Line to Bromley from Elephant and Castle. This aims to improve transport connectivity and journey times in south east London, and to provide relief to congested national rail paths into central London.TfL Travel PlanningLead on development management related travel plan advice from TfL. Involved updating the TfL guidance to reflect recent national planning policy changes; designing and implementing a new travel plan information website; renegotiation and tendering of contracts for the travel plan management tools TRAVL and iTRACE; engagement with borough planning and transport officers, consultants and developers; and work with the Business Engagement team to promote the smarter working initiatives that can be included within travel plans for new commercial sites.

TfL Borough PlanningReporting to the Mayor of London and Local Planning Authority on planning applications, local policy documents and neighbourhood plans affecting the TfL network and negotiating S106 and Mayors CIL contributions for transport infrastructure and service enhancements.TfL Surface Strategy DevelopmentWorking on a variety of modal transport planning issues and projects. Examples include:• TfLs Walking Strategy ‘Making Walking Count’: I wrote a strategy using best practice walking examples and population segregation data to highlight what and where improvements could be made to support different socio-economic groups across the boroughs. I subsequently drafted a business case to quantify the costs and benefits of the proposed interventions and justify investment.• Clean Air Fund ‘No idling strategy’: I was responsible for a campaign to reduce unnecessary engine idling outside schools. I coordinated the TfL Schools team, London Transport Museum and London Sustainability Exchange to educate children and parents at schools in Central London.• Greenwich Peninsula Bus Strategy: In response to the removal of the Greenwich Waterfront Transit scheme from the TfL Business Plan, I worked with the borough and developers to address bus capacity and infrastructure issues on the peninsula and to reinvest Section 106 contributions.
