Producer (Rhapsody 2018)

I was Producer of "Rhapsody 2018" in The Shaw Theatre in the West End. The show comprises 24 iconic contemporary songs with new twists, and includes set-ups ranging from acappella to rock bands, and from choirs to string quartets. This involved coordinating 110 musicians, a Production team of around 20, organising Arrangers and Musical Directors, interviewing and hiring assistants, holding auditions and liaising with UCL Stage Crew Society, UCL Art Society and UCL Union. I also successfully pitched the show in a presentation alongside the Director and the 2017/18 President to the UCL Theatre Users Board.My role encompassed administration, budgeting, set design, marketing, sales, working with graphic designers, working on the creative aspects alongside the Director, organising photographers and videographers, and ensuring the smooth running of the show. We completely sold out both nights, at 430 tickets per night, made a good profit, and received a standing ovation on the final night.

I was elected President of a 250-member society, and after my year of leadership, we had expanded to over 300 paid members. I managed a committee of 19, lead our meetings, and we organised a large number of events, including regular Open Mic Nights, Workshops, Gigs, an annual Battle of the Bands competition, a Theatre Show and recorded live sessions in collaboration with UCL Film & TV Society. I acted as the main point of contact between the society and the Students' Union, and also arranged collaborations with other groups on campus. Under my leadership, the society won its first ever awards – “Most Developed Arts Society”, “Best Project”, “Best Bloomsbury” (large-scale show) and “Best Collaboration”, the latter for a Gala with 5 other societies, for which I was Producer for our section. We were also nominated for 'Arts Society of the Year'.

I was selected to take part in an eight week lab placement for undergraduates, funded by the Wellcome Trust. I worked in Professor Phil Woodman’s lab, whose research focuses on cell trafficking and LITAF, mutations of which have been linked to Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. My project was based on interactions between LITAF and various other cellular proteins, and gave me the opportunity to practice my lab techniques, including cell culture. I was able to better understand how labs are run, and what it is like to work in one.
