Hannah Mcgowan Email and Phone Number
I have a passion for clinical and health research. Much of my past research experience has dealt with behavioral monitoring and data collection through remote acquisition (mobile phone, bio-signal capturing devices, distant learning technology). I have a strong interest in how digital solutions can be used for early detection, prevention and treatment for diseases. As a PhD candidate, I am focusing on determinants for behavior change (physical activity) and the use of digital health technologies for cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. Moreover, I have a strong interest in neurological/cognitive functions through my background in Neuro-Cognitive Psychology, and have explored the topics of sleep hygiene behavior and sleep quality through my Master's thesis. I hope to bridge the gap between evidence-based solutions into healthcare. I have experience working in interdisciplinary teams, skills in HCI (Human-centered interaction) and implementation science.

Phd CandidateLudwig Boltzmann Institute For Digital Health And Prevention Sep 2022 - PresentSalzburgI am currently investigating the use and perception of digital technology by post cardiac rehabilitation patients in terms of for daily life and physical activity purposes. Goal of the project is to highlight facilitators and barriers to digital health technology acceptability among CVD patients and provide recommendations for developers. -
Student AssistantTechnical University Of Munich Apr 2021 - Jul 2021I worked in the Tele-Covid Study at the Klinkum Rechts der Isar where we monitored positive COVID-19 patients in home isolation by remotely monitoring key biomarkers (temperature, oxygen saturation, respiration rate, heart rate) and performing daily tele-call visits to assess their symptoms. Aim of the project was to asses if remote monitorings of symptoms can allow for earlier intervention of hospitalisation in cases of disease worsening. -
Research AssistantLudwig-Maximilians-Universität München Oct 2020 - Jun 2021I supported a project concerned with the interpretion or perception of touch in a non-threatening environement. The motivation for the project was to understand how touch can be interpreted and possibily improved for individuals with mental disorders (such as anoxeria) to facilitate touch in physical therapeutic environments. I assisted with performing key research steps such as planning a research project design, preparing a literature analysis on prior literature, coding in Python to run analysis on physiological and subjective data and collaborating with researchers on project ideas. -
Summer InternUniversité De Bordeaux Aug 2020 - Oct 2020Bordeaux, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, FranceI conducted an original summer research project at the Neurofunctional Imaging Group at Institute of Neurodegenerative Disorders, University of Bordeaux. I researched cognitive function and brain development in post-adolescene and early adulthood (18 - 34 years) using data from an MRI-Share cohort, a subsection of a large epidemiological study regarding the health of adolescences and young adults in France (called I-Share). I performed standard least square regression models in software JMP Pro 15 to explore variables of age, sex, education studies on executive function and to explore if late maturation processes (brain phenotypes) continue to develop in a post-puberty population and if study field choice (university study) is related to brain maturation. -
Research InternLudwig-Maximilians-Universität München Mar 2020 - Jul 2020Munich, Bavaria, GermanyIn the Psychological Methodology and Diagnostics Department at the LMU, I worked on the Phone Study Research proect. The aim of this project was to assess how phone data (usage of phone, applications used, phone personalization) could be used to predict personality and behavior. I supported the project by performing a literature analysis on predictive modeling of behavior from phone use and creating an R markdown coding scheme book to code predictive modeling variables. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Maryland Baltimore County Jan 2019 - Sep 2019In the Affective Behavior Interaction Laboratory as part of the Information Systems Department at UMBC, I worked as a research assistant concerned with the topic of stress and performance in paramedics. I worked on key research project tasks, collecting data (physiological, questionnarie - based) and running analysis of subjective, quantitative data (stress and emotional intelligenece) using R studio. I also presented the findings of the project through poster presentations and publication. -
Research AssistantUniversity Of Maryland Baltimore County Jun 2017 - Sep 2019I worked as a research assistant in the Bodies in Motion Laboratory at the Information Systems department. Here, I helped assess transfer of knowledge and performance in a remote learning condition, specifically, in using a remote virtual pointer to facilitate surgicial learning in telemedicine. I performed key research tasks, collecting data (eye-tracking, physiological, questionnaires) and ran statistical analysis on quantitative data using R. I was nominated as a lecturer for the Computer Assisted Surgery and Radiology Conference in Berlin, Germany (June 2018) and supported in the writing of scientific publications. -
Summer InternAlbert Einstein College Of Medicine Jun 2018 - Aug 2018I was accepted into the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, NY. I investigated the relationship of auditory multitasking on working memory by analyzing human electroencephalogram (EEG) data using Neuroscan software and presented my findings at that annual SURP poster presentation. -
InternAscension Saint Agnes Hospital Jan 2017 - May 2017Baltimore, Maryland, United StatesI took part in a semester-long shadowing experience at the Neurology Department at St. Agnes Hospital where I observed diagnostic testing/MRI scans of patients with neurological disorders (stroke and MS).
