As a Clinical Research Intern, I have many different duties that involve research, health promotion, education, and administration. I am working with a graduate student to collect data for a project proposal that focuses on improving the mental health resources for patients. We will work together to implement and monitor this project. Another part of my job is to develop and provide resources to patients, such as brochures, handouts, samples and kits. I shadow the clinical assistants so that I am familiar with the work that they do. Every day, I view the charts for upcoming patients and write down notes for the clinician. These notes may be suggestions of particular resources to give, tests to carry out, or topics to talk to the patient about. Part of my internship includes completing multiple educational lessons and certifications on documentation, mandatory reporting, HIPAA, communicating with adolescents, LGBTQ healthcare, intimate partner violence, health literacy, infection prevention, STIs, counseling, research and research ethics. I have also been trained in using Athena, the electronic medical record system.

I assisted with outreach, education, and research. I was able to use my creativity to develop activities and visually pleasing materials that promoted good mental health. I created education materials and developed resources that were designed for URI students. I also worked with the counselors to prepare presentations and completed research projects that focused on the impact of college counseling center programs on mental health
