About Hannah Ross, Phd
I chose a career in computational physics as I have always been fascinated by the way the world around me works. My background is in both physics and computer science and a PhD and postdoc working with large scale cosmological simulations has given me extensive experience in high performance computing and programming in multiple languages. I am passionate about tackling climate change and I am currently working at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory optimizing climate simulations. I'm very creative, enjoy coming up with new ideas and solving problems: both physics and computer science related. Outside of work I enjoy painting, running, hiking and playing the flute, piccolo, bansuri and Irish tin whistle.

Performance Engineer
CurrentAt Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory I am working on profiling and optimizing the atmospheric component of the Energy Exascale Earth System model (E3SM) known as the Simple Cloud Resolving E3SM Atmostphere Model (SCREAM). The goal of SCREAM is to use using Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) architectures to run efficiently at a global resolution of 3 km.
Simulation Engineer
I worked on developing and optimizing Salo Science's wildfire hazard and vegetation simulation systems. This involved building an improved workflow to scale individual simulations on a cloud infrastructure as well as improving the underlying codebase for the wildfire behavior model.
Postdoctoral Scholar
I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Computational Cosmology Center (C3). My research focused on large-scale cosmological simulations to model the impact of massive neutrinos on the 21-cm signal from the epoch of re-ionization and cosmic dawn and the Lyman-α forest. To do this I worked extensively on the improvement and development of.
