Frontotemporal dementia is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that causes changes in personality, behavior, and language. I coordinated two clinical trials that tested low doses of lithium carbonate as a treatment for agitation, and oxytocin as a treatment for apathy. I also assisted with several observational studies to document disease progression over time & to characterize neuropsychiatric and behavioral changes and emotional processing in people with a variety of neurodegenerative diseases. I have been an author on several papers about behavioral and emotional changes in patients with frontotemporal dementia, including two which I first-authored.As a study coordinator, I recruited patients and saw them through the clinical trials, performing cognitive testing and EKGs at regular visits, and interviewing spouses or family members about their loved one's symptoms, as well as their own experiences of burden as caretakers. I oversaw administrative aspects of the studies (communicating with the institutional review board, organizing clinical facilities, coordination with research pharmacies and labs, writing grant progress reports, etc). Additionally, I aided with interviewing, selecting, and training new staff as well as implementing new grant projects within our research lab. Show less -

I also oversaw participant recruitment, contacting and screening participants for health issues, administering the noninvasive stimulation while they completed tasks, and recording and maintaining the confidentiality of their information. When the data was collected, I analyzed it using Excel and SPSS, and then co-wrote a research report with Professor van't Wout, which was published in the journal of Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience.
