Independent Business OwnerThe Concious Bride Dec 2016 - Nov 2019MacclesfieldI loved the creativity of being a business owner. During this time I developed a brand identity and a high street shop selling sustainable wedding dresses. Starting from scratch I created a unique offer from business plans to real life. Using my existing communications skills and during this time I rapidly developed on them I designed a brand style and logo using adobe software and built a website including ecommerce and a blog. With the SEO knowledge I developed I was able to build a beautiful website that ranked number one on google for all of my chosen key words and target my ideal customer across the UK. As a business owner I did everything needed within the business from buying and merchandising my store, liaising with customers to make sales in the shop and online, advertising campaigns, manufacturers, media and press. I wrote articles for magazines and other wedding blogs on sustainable weddings. Being the only person within the business I had to be self-motivated and effectively manage my time to get all the tasks done.

Governance CoordinatorNational Union Of Students (Uk) Mar 2014 - Apr 2018As part of a member focused team my role involved producing member facing communications regarding our democracy and governance (our members were Student Unions and the students engaged with them). Writing copy on our member facing website across the who we are, governance and democracy sections and news and events. Working across the organisation to ensure a joined-up approach and the same messages reaching our members. Developing the team operating plan which is developed and in addition I developed a timetable of deadlines and news articles/web updates to keep us delivering consistent and timely communications. As part of the democracy, governance and events team I ran elections for volunteers to our governance and democratic bodies including our various Boards and Subcommittees and National Executive Council. Prior to all elections I developed the volunteering documents including role profiles, engaging articles to encourage running for a position and alongside provided support as a volunteer manager. I created a governance volunteer induction training platform and modules with the People team. In supporting our volunteers (Trustees and other Committee members) I managed their experience with NUS from nomination or application to the end of their term. I developed the concept and site for the new Board members’ intranet on sharepoint. As well as working closely with volunteers I worked closely with the Directors and Senior management to support the Boards and Subcommittees. Providing governance administration, advice and support to the directors. Supporting the Boards, Trustees and administrating the formal corporate governance proceedings; preparing papers, writing agendas, managing the cycle of business and writing minutes. Supporting the chairs of the Boards, ensuring they are well prepared and briefed for the meetings and have been given the appropriate induction and training. A number of company secretarial assistant duties also. -
Corporate Affairs OfficerInformation Commissioner'S Office Jul 2012 - Feb 2014As part of this team I was involved in monitoring press calls, updating the website, internal communications and supporting the social media campaigns. Working on external publications; proof reading, supporting the enforcement of the corporate style guide and writing and publishing consultation documents and co-ordinating the responses to consultations. My skills in project management were developed by joining project groups and completing tasks to implement changes across the business. As a project support officer, I wrote, implemented and managed communication plans. I worked with the Corporate Governance Manager to monitor the ICO’s compliance with the UK Corporate Governance Code. This involves a variety of tasks from contract management and liaison with internal audit and the Ministry of Justice to writing reports for directors’ meetings and organising events. I regularly wrote briefs and reports, checked reports for colleagues and wrote minutes for the meetings. Diary management for myself and colleagues across the business was part of my role. I managed a variety of meetings for staff across the ICO. I also managed the contract for the internal audit provision. I assisted in planning the annual audit reports, checking the drafts and bringing it to the attention of the committees and organising meetings to complete the audits. During my time at the ICO I expanded my role and took on additional responsibilities. Knowledge Management is a key component to the success of the ICO and part of my role was to support this and the knowledge management group. I organised the knowledge management group meetings, took minutes and follow up actions as part of this objective. I was trained to manage and update the records storage and management system and address issues. With the records manager absent I supported the ICO in implementing the records management processes across the ICO and ensured staff were following the correct procedures. -
Service And Control ManagerSantander Uk Corporate & Commercial Sep 2007 - Jun 2012My role as deputy manager covered: people management, risk management, customer service, sales and audit. During my time at this branch I increased the sales, audit and service results each quarter. My career developed quickly with Santander and my success is due to my strengths as a confident and self-motivated person. Working with the branch manager or acting as, I lead a team of individuals committed to delivering the highest standard of service and building relationships with our clients. I successfully trained colleagues and increased performance results. Many of my staff I developed progressed onto the next role in the business. Assisting in recruitment and completing weekly one to one’s ensured supported my team effectively and developed the branch. The risk was at a critical position and audit scores were low when I joined the branch; I had to retrain the team and implement new guidelines and routines. Subsequently the audit scores increased each quarter and we became a high performing branch. We prided our branch on receiving the highest customer service scores. We achieved this by having a smile and time for everyone. We believed that we could save every customer money and always talked to them to see if this was possible in any way. I engaged with customers and colleagues at all levels, including planning for a successful quarter and monitoring this with regular feedback to the senior management team in conference calls, spread sheets and meetings. Previously as the banking adviser and then as a manager I interviewed with a range of customers from the high value investments to those just starting out. I have the ability to adjust my communication style to be suitable for my audience and I easily get along with a variety of people. -
