About Hannah Wild

My name is Hannah Wild and I will always help someone who needs it because I am confident and organized in my work. When I was younger, I used to watch my favorite cooking shows. This inspired me to pursue a career as a professional Chef. Today, I work at Porter Regional Hospital as a cook. This position helps me gain experience and makes me pliable in many situations. Also, I currently attend Baker College's Culinary Institute of Michigan in Muskegon, Michigan for my Culinary Arts Associates of Applied Science. Once I graduate with my associates degree in culinary arts, I plan to attend a local college in my home town for my business degree. After I graduate, I want to travel the world and learn from the best chefs in many countries. After I get at least 5 or 6 years of experience, I want to start to work towards owning my own restaurant. I want to be able to think outside the box and reinvent the way people look at the hospitality and food industry.

At each of these stations, I learn how to manage time wisely and to learn the proper way to prepare the dishes I am in charge of making.

    While working at Porter Regional, I was trained on many positions. I was trained to work with customer and patient meals. I had to learn and adapt to the many different diets a patient might have to be on like, low carbohydrates, fluid restrictions, cardiac diets, mechanically softened foods, pureed diets, and many more. This position is very different from any restaurant or institution I have ever worked in. Since it is a hospital, I have to make sure I am taking extra precautions when it comes to cleaning, labeling and dating, and making sure expired food is discarded properly. On a normal day, I can serve anywhere from 150-200 people. We also work two meal services, so I would work either the breakfast-lunch service or the lunch-dinner service. Patients are also allowed to order snacks and order what they would like because our meals are considered room service.

    While working at Deep River Water Park, I had to work most stations in the food department. While I was a cook, I would be in charge of making all the orders that came in. While I was in charge of prep, I had to make sure everything was prepped for the next day like condiments, vegetables for burgers, and jalapenos for nachos.

    While being at this job, I've learned many life skills that will help me out in the future. I have to be able to learn quick and follow brief instructions. I also need to know how to manage my time so orders and contracts are given out on time. On a typical day we go through 3-5 contracts that involve many different components. While we work on the orders for that day, we are also doing morning orders for the next day so we don't have to rush to finish contracts. We also need to make sure our area is swept and cleaned at all times.While working with my general team, I also have to work with the front of the house team to make sure they get their part done and the orders and contracts get out on time. We serve many people including the President of Valparaiso University.
