Communicating with young adults can be challenging.Those kids don't need someone to tell them what to do or how to do it, but they may need help navigating how to communicate what they are feeling. I take into consideration the struggle that students have talking to adults. Some feel as if they don't have a voice and are not heard. Others have trust issues because of things that take place at home. I have experienced this myself with teammates and even myself in the past. I hope to create a relationship that allows me to mentor and help a student athlete know that they are enough. To encourage them so that they may develop the confidence in knowing they worth. Teaching them that hard work is the only way through and that you cannot just sit back and watch thinking that something is going to happen for them. I hope to educate athletes about their sport and that athletics doesn't hide your character it exposes it. Teaching them how to be a team player and understanding that concept and how it transfers over to the real world. Not only that, but also taking responsibility for their own attitudes and actions. I have worked with people and experienced teammates who do not do this and this creates a negative culture for the team itself. Working with people is one of the most challenging parts of this world. Navigating through showing kindness and grace is what sets someone apart from someone who thinks they can do it all themselves. I have developed many of these skills in my athletic career and I hope to teach students that they are not alone in the process.
