When I was little, I wanted to be a movie star. In high school, my senior superlatives were “most likely to star on Broadway” and “Most likely to star in a movie with Leonardo Dicaprio.” I wore both badges with honor. However, when it came to my real life, I knew that waiting tables and hoping for callbacks would destroy my love for the arts, so I needed to think somewhat more realistically. I came to Champlain College in 2018 as a Business Administration major because I wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do after school, and this option was the safest. About halfway through my four years, BA became less interesting, and I decided to switch majors to Marketing. This switch absolutely changed me and my outlook on my career path. I began my marketing journey by working on a project for my first digital marketing class to educate and help a local Burlington, Vermont business increase their online presence. Since then, that business has been active on their social media, driving traffic to their website, and increasing their coffee community tenfold. Having the opportunity to support them when they needed it and seeing that advice be taken was what really made me realize I was in the right field. Currently, I am a Marketing Intern for a new Non-profit Organization called Break Through Waves(BTW). BTW provides an Ocean Therapy service to anyone who lives with Trauma for free, so it is an organization that I am passionate about and want to succeed. My biggest victory was increasing brand recognition through content creation and SEO, getting BTW onto the first page of Google. It may seem small, but I have grown so much in the past two years. I started out a wide-eyed and terrified student, and I have since become a truly empowered marketing professional. Break Through Waves taught me that I want to do more than just punch in, do work, and punch out - I want to make a difference. I value empathy and communication. Without either, a successful business seems impossible. I love to listen to what is being said and what isn’t, because both things are equally important when it comes to problem solving and decision making. I also have a passion for thinking outside the box and being a little more daring when it comes to creating the perfect campaign. Sometimes weird works! I also love making people laugh and entertaining when meetings get dull. Not only does it lighten the mood, but I have found that it helps with engagement in meetings too! These values are something that I definitely want to take with me as I shift gears and start my Marketing career.
