I led foundational work to define, drive, and manage positive social and environmental impact across asset classes at Nuveen, the investment management arm of TIAA. I worked closely with our executive team to establish a firm-wide vision for impact. Then I helped bring the vision to life by partnering with portfolio management, product, and distribution teams. I created product standards and impact frameworks, reviewed individual investments, developed portfolio-level client reporting, and contributed to thought leadership. Impact investing assets under management grew by 45% over two years, to $6.1 billion.

I managed a suite of influential research projects and thought leadership activities focused on how capital markets can help solve the world's pressing social and environmental challenges. My work in designing, executing, and disseminating research supported the GIIN's mission of increasing the scale and effectiveness of impact investing worldwide. In addition to managing individual research projects, I supported our overall program strategy development, frequently engaging with other researchers and investment leaders to both shape new research concepts and use the insights we generate to inform investment practice.

I led research at Value for Women (at the time, a portfolio company of EPV), including field work in India and Kenya on the ecosystem for investment in women-led small businesses. I managed a research team to conduct interviews and focus groups with finance experts and women entrepreneurs to identify gender-based barriers. We also convened ecosystem design workshops with financial services providers, government officials, capacity builders, and women entrepreneurs to develop strategies for increasing the share of women entrepreneurs in investors' portfolios. The findings were presented to hundreds of investors and informed programming and initiatives aimed at fostering the growth of women entrepreneurs around the world.At the broader EPV holding company, I helped a range of clients - including multinational conglomerates, foundations, non-profit organizations, banks, and impact investing funds - to design strategies that led to sustainable, inclusive business growth. I worked within the core team in two main ways: 1) plan, manage, and deliver research and advisory services for existing clients; and 2) explore and evaluate strategic opportunities for new areas of work. www.epven.com

I conducted research and designed programs and business models that stimulate bottom-up, gender-equitable economic development through active partnerships among the private sector, NGOs, and governments. Other services provided include advising on impact investment strategy, research design and management, gender integration, proposal writing, and curriculum and workshop development.

Start Up! India is an incubator and management consultant for social enterprises. I conducted a landscape assessment on the health sector and made recommendations for the design of a network of high-quality, affordable health clinics for rural migrant communities. I also planned an impact assessment and demand assessment for a financial services company serving migrants, and contributed content to an incubation toolkit for social enterprises.

As part of a graduate consulting team, I designed strategies for MasterCard to play a role in financial inclusion in developing countries, focusing on case studies in Panama and Tanzania. I presented recommendations to the Vice Chair of MasterCard and the government relations team based on field analysis of the electronic payments landscape of Tanzania. Recommendations were distributed to regional offices and at a subsequent board meeting.
